Sir Alex Jokes With Misfiring Penalty Takers: Next Week I'll Take One And We'll Score

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has jokingly suggested he may have to take the club's next penalty himself, in the wake of Wayne Rooney's miss in their 2-1 victory over Arsenal on Saturday.

Goals from Robin van Persie and Patrice Evra were enough to see Red Devils collect the three points from the contest and move to the top of the Premier League for the first time this season. But the margin of victory could have been more had Rooney not fired his penalty wide after Santi Cazorla was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area.

And with the England international now the fourth United player to have missed from the spot this season, the 70-year-old manager appeared at a loss as to who should take future penalties at Old Trafford.

"I think I’ll take one myself next week — then we’ll score.” he told The Sun.

“These things happen and it’s gone now." he said. “I’m obviously disappointed but I’ll move on as we won the game, which is the most important thing.”
