Arsenal Won't Sell Van Persie Cheap - Chairman, Peter Hill-Wood

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood admits he is mystified by Robin van Persie's determination to leave the club.

The Gunners have already rejected a bid from Manchester United as speculation regarding the striker's future continues to circulate after he turned down the offer of a new contract at Emirates Stadium.

But while Hill-Wood appeared resigned to losing the Gunners captain, whose future is set to be decided by August 18, he warned potential suitors that Arsenal would not let last season's PFA footballer of the year leave on the cheap.

"He is a world-class player and we don't want to give him away," Hill-Wood was quoted as saying in the Daily Star. "If he is determined to leave that is up to him, but giving him away is not on our agenda.

"To be honest I do not understand him at all. I understood Cesc Fabregas wanting to go home to Barcelona last summer. I had sympathy with that. But I thought Robin was happy at Arsenal, especially after the season he had with us."
