Skipper of Nigeria’s U20 male football team, Chinenye Okani has promised victory over Tanzania in Sunday’s 2013 African Youth Championship.
Okani gave the assurance after the team suffered a 1:0 defeat in the hands of their Rwandese counterparts on Tuesday in Kigali as part of their
build-up to the AYC qualifier in Dar es Salam.
“We will beat Tanzania on Sunday because we will give 150% in this match so as to make Nigeria proud,” said the goalkeeper.
A win is compulsory
NFF Director of Technical, Emmanuel Ikpeme charged the Nigeria the Flying Eagles to be positive going into the encounter.
Ikpeme, who is accompanying the team, told the team that they need to put behind them the Rwanda loss so as to be positive going into the Tanzania
“Don’t dwell on the past game because yesterday is past,” Ikpeme, a trained sports psychologist, addressed the team on Wednesday at their Alpha
Palace Hotel in Kigali.
“We must now be positive because negative forces affect performance as you cannot express yourself fully when you are not happy.
“That we have setbacks does not mean we are not good. We are bound to make mistakes but we must be committed to correct them.”
Ikpeme added that he has full confidence the team will deliver in Tanzania.
“You are good and I have confidence in you,” he declared.
