Financial Crunch Stalls NFF's Activities

The federal government delay in the release of budgetary allocations to ministries and parastatals, may have taken its toll on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), as the cash crunch confronting the federation has stalled the periodic meeting of board members and committees.

Disclosing this to Daily Sunsports, a board member who pleaded anonymity, expressed discomfort over the situation, just as it has affected many things including the pending issue about the appointment of another national technical director following the sports minister's directive to end the proposed hiring of Belgian tactician, Tom Saintfiet.

“The financial situation is too bad. According to the president, that was why we have not been able to hold any board meeting for some time now, even though it should statutorily be at least once every three months. It is too bad that all we know about Nigerians football were the ones we read on the pages of newspapers or hear on radio and television. The media is now our source of information about the activities of the Glass House.

“If those in charge of the day to day running of the federation said they don't have enough fund to pay for our sitting allowances, do you expect me to come and pick my bills in Abuja? No matter the situation, it is too bad for many of the board members to only read about events in the Glass House on the media.

“As it is now, we don't have any choice than to continue with the situation. We just pray it won't degenerate into an intolerable situation so that we can continue to enjoy the little peace in the football family now,” our source quipped.
