Nadal, who won the ATP Brazil Open crown 10 days ago, was simply too strong for the Argentinean as he raced to a 6-2 6-2 victory in Acapulco.

Fellow Spaniards David Ferrer and Nicolas Almagro were also comfortable winners during the first round.

Top seed Ferrer, fresh from his Copa Claro title in Buenos Aires, saw off Antonio Veic 6-0 6-3, while Almagro, the No 3 seed, blew away Cesar Ramirez 6-0 6-1.

There was also success for the eighth-seeded Horacio Zeballos as he beat Simone Bolelli 7-5 6-1, however it wasn't all plain sailing for the ranked players, though.

Fourth seed Stanislas Wawrinka, who lost to Ferrer in the final in Buenos Aires, crashed out 6-2 7-6 (7-3) to Fabio Fognini, while the sixth-seeded Thomaz Bellucci suffered a 4-6 6-4 6-4 loss to Andrey Kuznetsov.

Benoit Paire, the No 7 seed, saw his challenge ended 4-6 6-3 6-4 by Paolo Lorenzi.

Tommy Robredo and Daniel Gimeno-Traver made it five Spanish players in the second round as they overcame Filippo Volandri and Carlos Berlocq respectively, while Wayne Odesnik beat Lukasz Kubot 6-3 6-4.
