The event, scheduled to hold at the Local Government Service Commission Hall, Abere, Oshogbo, is one in the series of programmes designed for the development of youths and grass-root sports in the state.
The Osun Governor’s Cup is an under-17 competition for secondary school boys across the 31 local government councils of the state and the state sports commissioner, Stephen Kola-Balogun says, “its a very important project for the governor, the state sports ministry and the entire people of Osun.”
“Presently, there is no football competition among secondary schools in the state but with this programme we are not only filling that vacuum but are very determined to make it very meaningful and effectively productive for the discovery and grooming of talents.
“This is a significant follow up on the sports development committee earlier set up by the governor in pursuit of the use of sports for social and economic development of our youths.”
Organisers and marketers of the event, Double Accord Resources, revealed that the unveiling ceremony will also feature recognitions of citizens of the state who have excelled in active sports, administration and management.
