Coach Stephen Keshi, who returned to the country from the United States on Tuesday also named another 23 Nigeria-based players that would battle for shirts ahead of the event that starts January 19.
And while releasing the names Keshi insisted that only players who are in top form would make his team to South Africa.
Keshi, who is perceived by many to have a selection problem, going by the number of players he has used in the last one year, declared that there is no such problem as players will naturally eliminate themselves based on form in the course of camping for the Nations Cup.
He said, “What we want to get is a good mix of players who can help us do well at the Nations Cup. We want to win and I know we can but names don’t count in football anymore so anybody good enough should come and prove it. Objectivity is the watchword for the selection of players and I promise I will stick to it.
The players are expected in Abuja on Sunday while training will effectively start on Monday. The list of foreign based players is expected to be released in the week leading to Christmas, as the team is expected to travel December 27 for the final phase of its camping in Faro, Portugal.
