Louis van Gaal has hit out at Jose Mourinho once again claiming the way the Portuguese chased his job Manchester United "was not elegant at all".

The Dutchman was sacked by the Red Devils 16 months just after he won the FA Cup with the club.

The two managers ran into each other at Anfield on Saturday, when the Portuguese invited him in for a glass of wine after what turned out to be a goalless draw with Liverpool.

He said Mourinho was tying to get his job while manager of the club: “Of course. How I have suspected it, the way his transfer as a manager to Manchester United went was not elegant at all. That resulted in my sacking.

“In principle, he is not a bad guy. He can be sympathetic and he was this way when he was my assistant in the past.

“But he lets himself go out of control too often.’’

Jose Mourinho was appointed manager of the club in June 2016 and in his first season at the club, he won the Community Shield, English League Cup and the Europa League.
