Columbia star attacker Radamel Falcao has been allegedly involved in a match fixing scandal in the Columbia’s final world cup qualifiers against Peru in Lima.

Falcao was seen in a viral video telling the opposition players to calm down and play for a draw during the final round of World Cup 2018 qualifying.

Colombia and Peru played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw in Lima, with the visitors going ahead via a James Rodriguez goal assisted by Falcao himself.

Peru equalised in the match through national hero Pablo Guerrero in the 76 minute, presenting both sides with a favourable tied scoreline.

Fired up from their late goal, Peru players continued an energetic final flourish to the game, only for Falcao to engage in a strange brief exchange with several members of his opposition.

The former Manchester United and Chelsea man was seen covering his mouth and speaking animatedly to some of the Peru players, while appearing to gently push one player over to his nearby team-mates to pass on a message.

It has since been suggested Falcao was telling his opponents to calm down their play, as the 1-1 scoreline was enough to benefit both sides.

In the latter stages the tie did indeed wind down to a stalemate, with Colombia qualifying as a result and Peru set to enter the play-off phase for a place in the competition.

Fellow South Americans and current Copa America holders Chile were condemned to miss out on a plane ticket to Russia as a result.

Peru will now go up against New Zealand in a two-legged encounter with the winner guaranteed a place at next summer's tournament.
