Former Falcons coach nominated for FIFA best women coach award

- Former Super Falcons coach Florence Omagbemi has been shortlisted for the Best FIFA women's coach

- The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony will hold on Monday October 23

FIFA has shortlisted former Super Falcons of Nigeria head coach Florence Omagbemi for the Best FIFA women’s Coach 2017 award.

Omagbemi’s inclusion in a 10-man shortlist was announced on FIFA’s official website on Thursday August 17. The shortlist was chosen by a panel of women’s football experts that includes notable names like Unites States women’s football greats Nadine Kessler of Germany, Mia Hamm, and Sisi of Brazil amongst others.

Omagbemi led the Super Falcons to win the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Cameroon in 2016 but has not been retained by the Nigeria Football Federation.

Other names in the shortlist are Sarina Wiegman who won the European Women’s Champpionship with the Netherlands, Olivier Echouafni, Germany’s Ralf Kellermann, and Gerard Precheur both from France, Dominik Thalhammer of Austria and Bracelona’s women’s team coach Xavi Llorens.

Also in the list are North Korea’s Hwang Yong-Bong, Emma Hayes of England and Denmark’s Nils Nielsen.

The winner of The Best FIFA Women’s Coach 2017 award, will be chosen by a process involving the four main stakeholders involved in football: national team coaches, captains, selected media and the fans.

Voting starts on Monday August 21 and closes on September 7 with the women’s awards taking the period November 20 to August 6 inclusive into account.

The final lists of three nominees for the men’s and women’s player and coach categories – as well as for the FIFA Puskás Award, the FIFA Fan Award and the brand new The Best FIFA Goalkeeper Award – will be announced in mid-September.

The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony will hold on Monday 23 October, where all winners will be presented with their awards.
