The Portuguese has been linked with a return to Old Trafford this summer after claiming he was unhappy in Spain in light of the his investigation for alleged tax evasion.
Mourinho claims his side have never thought about bidding for the player due to the economic power he brings to Real Madrid.
“We have never thought about it, because he's such an important player for his club, of great economic power, where we have not been able to find for whatever reason that could have made us think that Ronaldo could leave,” said Mourinho.
“I'm not a defender of my club once you waste time on players who are mission impossible.”
Jose Mourinho watched his side defeat LA Galaxy 5 - 2 in their first game of their tour of the United States.
Marcus Rashford scored twice before Maroune Fellaini, Henrikh Mhkitaryan Anthony Martial added three more for the Red Devils.
