Manchester United legend Rio Ferdianand has lost his mother to the cold hands of death just two years after the loss of his wife.
The former footballer's wife Rebecca, died in 2015 from cancer and his mother died from the same disease.
Rio and his footballer brother Anton Ferdinand released a statement on behalf of the family in which they said they were left 'heartbroken' after their 'devoted' mother passed away following a battle with cancer.
The Mirror reports that, Rio's mother Janice St Fort, 58-years-old, died in hospital on Thursday with her family at her bedside.
A statement issued by Rio, Anton and the family read: "We are heartbroken to announce that our amazing mum Janice passed away today after an ongoing battle with cancer.
"She was an inspiration to us all and was loved by everyone who knew her. She died at Guy's Cancer Unit, London Bridge Hospital, with her loving husband Peter and us, her four children, at her bedside."
"She was a devoted mother to us all, and she was the most incredible grandmother to our children."
Days before her death, Rio added a post on his Instagram page describing the love between himself and his mother.
Rio's wife Rebecca Ellison tragically died from breast cancer back in May 2015 leaving him to raise the couple's three children together.
