United manager Jose Mourinho has set his eyes in filling the potential void left by Rooney and ahead of United’s pre-season tour, talks are ongoing with Los Blancos for Rodriguez.
However, despite his bleak future at the Bernabeu, Real president Florentino Perez stated that the Colombian is an important player for the Spanish outfit.
“He (Rodriguez) is one of the best players in the world,” he started.
“He belongs to Madrid and Madrid players do not leave when they want to or their parents wants them to.
“We have to match the interests of the players with ours, but mostly those of Madrid,” he concluded.
James Rodriguez contract will not expire until 2020.
