Chile have made it into the final of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup following a penalty shoot-out win over Euro 2016 winners Portugal in a tense semi-final.

Nani, Moutinho and Ricardo Quaresma missed their efforts in the shoot-out as the 2016 Copa Centenario winners made it into the final for the first time ever.

Portugal made a blistering start to the match carving a lot of chances but could not muster any meaningful effort.

In the sixth minute, Alexis Sanchez sent a through ball to Eduardo Vargas but the latter was denied by an on rushing Rui Patricio.

Immediately after, Cristiano Ronaldo found Andre Silva with a cross from the right but the AC Milan striker's tap-in was thwarted by Claudio Bravo.

In the second half , Ronaldo capitalized on a defensive mix-up in the box to test Bravo with a left footed volley which was well saved.

Chile, dominant in possession throughout the game closed the game in the ascendancy as Ronaldo and co retreated to defensive tactics.

Arturo Vidal was a beast for Chile

The game went into extra-time but both side could not find the net in the first half of extra-time.

The game went into penalties after a goalless second half in extra-time where Vidal almost won the game in the final minute.

Silva squared for Vidal, who sent a strike off the inside of the post. The rebound got to Rodriguez who also sents his effort crashing off the bar.

Ricardo Quaresma missed his side's first penalty of the shoot-out with Joao Moutinho and Nani also missing their spot-kicks which were the second and third.
