After years of battling against cancer of the throat, legendary Nigerian coach and former Green Eagles' player Kelechi Emeteole has died in an hospital in India.

Emeteole before his death was said to have been having serious difficulties in breathing and was supposed to have a surgery in India, but passed-on at the final stage of his medical therapy.

His wife Lolo Emeteole confirmed the demise of her husband on Wednesday morning, June 21, 2017 stressing that the tragic death of the man popularly known as 'Caterpillar' would remain in her memory.

''Yes, my husband is dead as he could not make the final surgery to remove the pipe on his neck, and so sad that I am now a widow,'' the wife was quoted to have said.

Coach Emeteole was a veteran Nigerian football gaffer who has managed clubs like Enyimba, Lobi Stars, Heartland, El-Kanemi Warriors and reigning Nigerian champions Enugu Rangers.

While reacting to Kelechi Emeteole's demise, Ladan Bosso who is the head coach of Nigerian football League side El-Kanemi Warriors told NAIJ.com that his death was a great loss to the Nigerian football fraternity.

''So painful that a great man is gone, and this is not a good news to wake up with, but who I'm I to question God. I pray that that God will be with the family he left behind,'' Bosso said.
