Members of FC Ifeanyi Ubah (FCIU) have continued to clamour for the unconditional release of the club’s president Ifeanyi Ubah who has been held by the Department of State Service (DSS) over alleged diversion of illegal diversion of petroleum products valued at more than N11billion.
While the team engaged MFM FC of Lagos in an NPFL fixture, the club’s supporters continued to chant for the freedom of the oil-mogul at the Agege stadium.
NAIJ.com earlier reported that a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos state, on Thursday, May 25, ordered the DSS to release managing director of Capital Oil and Gas, Dr Ifeanyi Ubah within 48 hours.
In a swift, a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting at Jabi, ruled that the DSS should keep him for another 14 days.
In an exclusive chat with NAIJ.com, president of the FCIU supporters club Anthony Oniru Jekwu stated that the club’s boss only tried to help the country.
“We are sad about the whole thing. Just because Ifeanyi Ubah wanted to help Nigeria…as I see it now, the country does not have law,” Jekwu lamented.
The very fervent supporter also groaned that the situation is telling on the football club and other businesses owned by the billionaire.
After managing 8 games unbeaten, FCIU succumbed to a 1-0 defeat in the hands of MFM..
“Last season, we had a massive ten game unbeaten run,” Jekwu continued. Despite the loss today, we shall bounce back and replicate the form.
“The whole thing is affecting the club, but we know very soon he shall be free and that is why our fans have come out en-masse to chant for his freedom,” he added.
Ifeanyi Ubah is a major stakeholder in Nigerian Football as he hosted the FIFA president Gianni Infantino during the latter’s visit to Nigeria.
The business mogul who is also the Anambra state FA chairman was said to have led the delegation of current CAF president Ahmad Ahmad to the Maitama home of Senate president Bukola Saraki just before the CAF elections.
