Former Manchester United star Quinton Fortune collapsed while taking part in the London marathon and was carried off on a stretcher.
The ex South African international appeared barely conscious as four medics rushed to his aid after completing the 26.2 mile race.
NAIJ.com understands that the former Bolton and Atletico Madrid midfielder had earlier collapsed just 600m away from the end.
The 39-year-old who played under Sir Alex Ferguson for seven years was in real difficulty a mile from the finish line.
