German professional football star Mesut Ozil made a return to Arsenal's squad and helped the Gunners to record a 3-0 victory over visiting West Ham United on Wednesday, April 5, 2017.
NAIJ.com can report that Ozil who has been out of action for weeks was the hero for the Gunners scoring the opener and also assisted Englishman Theo Walcott to score the second goal that condemned West Ham United to a defeat at the Emirates stadium.
West Ham United were superb in the first half as they made lots of attempts at goal and Arsenal would have their goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez to thank for his numerous saves as he denied Andy Caroll and Andre Ayew.
Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez almost scored the opener before the break after being wonderfully set up by Granit Xhaka, but his shot was well saved by the visitors' goalkeeper Darren Randolph as the first half ended goalless.
On resumption, Arsenal changed their pattern and West Ham United found it difficult to cope with the Gunners' flurry of attack.
Hector Bellerin made a wonderful run before supplying a great pass inside the box and Mesut Ozil wasted no time scoring the first goal in the 58th minutes.
Ozil however assisted Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud to score the second and winning goal in the 68th and 83rd minutes respectively.
Arsenal have now gone to fifth position on the Premier League standings with 54 points.
