Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel on Sunday, April 2, opened his goal scoring account in Chinese Super League as he helped his team Tianjin TEDA to a comfortable 2-0 win over Chongqing Lifan.
Mikel grabbed the first goal of the game in the 48th minute before an own goal from Chongqing Lifan’s Goran Milovic in the 82nd minute sealed a 2-0 win for Tianjin Teda.
However, Mikel’s Nigerian teammate, Brown Ideye, who was also in action fired blank in the encounter. He was replaced in the 65th minute.
This is Tianjin TEDA first win of the season as they move up to ninth on the league with four points after three games.
NAIJ.com recalls that Tianjin TEDA started the season on a losing note and then recorded a draw in their second outing of the season.
Also, this is Mikel's second goal for his team as his first goal came in a pre-season friendly against Bundesliga II side, St. Pauli FC on Saturday, January 14, 2017.
Meanwhile, another Super Eagles star, Odion Ighalo, was on the losing side in the Chinese Super League as his club, Changchun Yatai were beaten 2-0 at home by Shandong Lunen.
Ighalo, who also doubles as Changchun’s captain, led the line for his side, but fired blanks as they suffered yet another defeat which has now seen them slip to the bottom of the league table, with no point from three games.
