- Manchester United are monitoring the situations of Mesut Ozil and Oxlade-Chamberlain
- Jose Mourinho thinks the two will strengthen his shallow midfield ahead of next season
- The Arsenal duo's contracts expire in the summer of 2018 and renewal talks have stalled
Jose Mourinho is looking to sign Arsenal stars Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mesut Ozil who he believes will strengthen his midfield next season.
The Red Devils are monitoring the situations of both players who have contracts expiring in less than 15 months time.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, 23, has spent six years at Arsenal but has never held down a regular place in the side while Ozil, the Gunners creator-in-chiefs will not sign a new contract untl Wenger renews his contract.
The England star has only managed to score three Premier League goals in his last two seasons at the Emirates and the Gunners hierarchy are not sure a renewal will do the club any good.
Mourinho once tried to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain as part of the deal which brought Petr Cech to Arsenal in 2014 but the swap deal was rejected by Arsene Wenger.
United wants Chamberlain to add to his midfield duo to Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera.
United's last game saw the coach deploy Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini as the aforementioned duo were out.
NAIJ.com understands that Ozil will resume contract talks with Arsenal at the end of the season.
Goal understands that Ozil has no intention of relocating from London to Manchester, however, which puts any potential move into huge doubt.
The German has already said Wenger's decision at the end of the season will determine whether he will sign an extension.
Mourinho coached Ozil during his time as Real Madrid boss and will continue to follow the player's situation closely with Chelsea and Bayern Munich also keen on a potential deal.
