Barcelona release 4-man shortlist of managers to replace Luis Enrique

- The Barcelona board has shortlisted four managers as they search for Luis Enrique's successor

- Enrique earlier announced that he will no longer continue as the coach of the Catalan giants

- Ronald Koeman is the favourite for the top job as he had a spell with the club between 1998 and 2000 as an assistant manager

Former Everton manager Ronald Koeman has been shortlisted alongside three others to succeed Luis Enrique at Barcelona.

Alejandro Valverde, Eusebio Sacristan, Juan Carlos Unzue are the other names under consideration by the club’s board, ahead of the decision in April.

According to the club’s technical director, Robert Fernandez, efforts are also being made to retain Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta at the Camp Nou.

NAIJ.com understands that the Spanish giants cut down the long list of candidates for the position to four as regards their beliefs are towards the Blaugrana‘s footballing philosophy.

As club president Josep Maria Bartomeu heads into his final four years at the club, the board has insisted that they are keen to appointing someone who is capable of handling tough situations.

Barca chiefs are also worried about their ageing squad and want someone who can get the best out of Iniesta and Javier Mascherano as the duo approach the final phase of their respective careers.

Recall that current Barcelona manager Luis Enrique earlier announced that he will no longer continue as the coach of the Catalan giants, saying he will leave at the end of the current season.

Enrique suffered heavy criticisms since his side's embarrassing 4 - 0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League round of 16 first leg tie on Valentines Day; but he led the side to an emphatic 6 – 1 win in the reverse fixture to pull the greatest comeback in the UEFA Champions League history.
