MFM FC of Lagos have once again made their Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) title intentions clear as they defeated hard fighting Plateau United at the Agege stadium on Sunday evening, March 19.
The Olukoya Boys who have been in spectacular form this season proved they are battle-ready for at least a continental ticket this term.
Stephen Odey who has been outstanding in front of goal opened the scoring in a spectacular fashion on the stroke of half time to send the crowd into the wilds.
Plateau United who are currently topping the standings returned from the break firing from all cylinders and Saleh almost restored parity from a goal-mouth scramble in the 55th minute, but his effort was deflected wide.
The visitors were eventually rewarded with a goal when Peter Eneji slotted home the ball from closed-range, with the league leaders looking good to run away with a point.
Coach Fidelis Illechukwu of MFM however changed his side’s tactics immediately, swapping his two forwards, Stephen Odey and Sikiru Olatubosun, to opposite ends as they sought for the crucial winning goal.
Barely four minutes to the end of the game, Sikiru Olatubosun who netted an amazing goal in their game against reigning champions Enugu Rangers was dangerously brought down in the box, and the referee deservedly pointed to the spot.
Stephen Odey stepped-up and slotted home his 10th goal of the season to ensure his side move to second position on the NPFL standings with 24 points from 13 matches; with a game in hand. It ended; MFM FC 2 – 1 Plateau United.
Plateau United remain at the summit of the standings with 25 points.
