Chelsea and Real Madrid great Claude Makelele says the an he is most compared to N'Golo Kante has a long way to go before he can be considered exceptional.
Kante has been a rock in the Chelsea midfield this season just like he was last season when Leicester City won the Premier League.
Makelele, a two-time Premier League winner says N’Golo Kante is still one quality away from being an “exceptional player”.
Although Makelele is full of praise for the Chelsea summer signing, the Swansea assistant manager has identified one area in which Kante can improve.
The defensive midfield role was rechristianed the 'Makelele role' for the way the former PSG, Chelsea and Real Madrid man reinvented the role.
"What I like about him is that he's very generous,” Makelele told SFR Sport. "He plays with a smile on his face, and that's an exceptional quality.
"I really hope he has a better career than mine, but he still needs that leadership.
"That doesn't mean be a captain, but to have an aura within the team that when they look at him, they think 'We're going to win' or when he speaks to them, they go 'You're right.'
"When he has that aura, he'll be an exceptional player. That's when he'll become a regular for France."
Kante joined Chelsea for £30 million in the summer. He could the third player after Eric Cantona and Mark Schwarzer to win two successive league titles with different clubs if the Blues actually win the title this season.
