- Tianjin Quanjian boss Fabio Cannavaro confirms Rooney could join his side
- The Chinese club are also looking to sign Aubameyang and Nikola Kalinic
- Jose Mourinho says Rooney could leave United at the end of February to China
Tianjin Quanjian boss Fabio Cannavaro has confirmed his club side are in talks to sign Manchester United Wayne Rooney.
The Manchester United legend is not the Chinese Super League side’s first choice however with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nikola Kalinic the top priority.
Jose Mourinho admitted skipper Rooney could quit Old Trafford next week with United’s record goalscorer weighing up £1million-a-week offer to play in China.
Tianjin Quanjian appears a likely destination for England’s most prolific forward following Cannavaro's comments.
He said: “We did make an approach for Rooney, but it was just chit-chat because he simply doesn’t suit our style of play.
“No further discussion was necessary. The truth is we had more frequent contact with Aubameyang.
“Unfortunately, our bid was rejected by Borussia Dortmund, who said he was needed in this season’s Champions League.
“Our prime target is still Kalinic but it’s quite difficult for his club to let him leave at the moment.
"Under such circumstances, we are caught in a dilemma. I need to communicate with our managing director."
Reports have already suggested that Rooney is set for a mega £52 million move to the Chinese Super League.
The 31-year-old could leave before the Chinese transfer window closes on February 27, 2017.
Rooney still has 18 months left on his contract, and he has missed Manchester United's last two games due to a combination of root canal surgery on a tooth and a muscle problem.
