Players of Sunshine Stars who are Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) campaigners have cried out bitterly to the public that they have not being paid their salaries and other entitlements since October 2016.
Sunshine Stars were defeated at home on Sunday, February, 5, 2017 in an NPFL week 6 game by visiting MFM FC and fans of the Akure Gunners are still livid over the disappointing defeat the club suffered.
One of the players who would not want his name on print explained that the club's financiers have been making promises prior to the start of the current Nigeria Premier League season that their welfare would be taken care of, but has been counter productive.

“We are playing with empty stomachs and how do you expect any result when the motivation is not there?
“I regret joining this club called Sunshine Stars because the team that defeated us at home, MFM of Lagos are not spectacular but we are not playing with the same zeal, some are committed players, while some are used to cash from the clubs they are coming from and this is affecting the team now.”
Efforts to speak with the chairman of the club Dapo Ajibade on the latest development proved abortive as he did not respond to calls.
Sunshine Stars are rooted at the bottom of the NPFL standings with 6 points after six games played this term and they will face Abia Warriors on Wednesday, February, 8, 2017 in their NPFL week 7 duel.
