Algeria, with one of the most talented squads at AFCON 2017 are on the brink of elimination at the group stage after a 2 - 1 defeat to the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.
Algeria not only controlled proceedings but also the possesion and the game in general in the first half but were unable to get the goal.
The opening goal came when Youssef Msakni's deflected effort finding its way in at the far post via Mandi.
Sunderland winger Wahbi Khazri was influencial in the game for Tunisia as he won the penalty that proved decisive.
After showing incredible desire to chase down Faouzi Ghoulam, the Sunderland man forced an error, showed a fine first touch to bring the ball down, and then tumbled when the Napoli man tugged his shirt. The contact was minimal, but enough to convince the referee.
Naim Sliti converted the resulting penalty and the game was all but up, despite more than 20 minutes remaining on the clock.
Algeria however pulled one back when Sofiane Hannin met a squared ball to score.
Algeria must now beat Senegal in their final game to have any chance of progressing. Even then, they need help from Zimbabwe who they drew with in their opening game.
