The 19-year-old was born in England and had featured for the country's U19s and U20s but can still play for the Nigerian national team.

Recall that Nigeria successfully snapped-up former England youth internationals like Alex Iwobi, Sone Aluko, Victor Moses and Shola Ameobi for the Super Eagles.

Lookman’s last minute goal against Manchester City in the English Premier League confirmed he has a lot to offer his father land.

According to an NFF scribe Bitrus Bewarang, efforts are ongoing to reach the player.

"He has Nigerian parents and we'd need to speak to him first," he told the BBC.

"I saw him against Manchester City and I was excited to see a young player of Nigerian descent shine, so I thought why not," said Bewarang.

"It is the duty of the national coach Gernot Rohr to invite players to the national team, but we will help him check Lookman's eligibility."

Bewarang further stated that it will be of immense value if Nigeria could get Lookman to be part of the present super eagles squad which is relatively young.

"We've managed to get players like Moses and Iwobi in the past and Lookman will be a great addition to the national team if we got him," Bewerang raved.

"We have a young side, the new coach is building a strong squad and having some youngsters from the Premier League Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi could help his decision.

"I am not desperate to see this happen but we will give it a shot."

Lookman recently signed a four-and-a-half year deal for Everton for £7.5m with add-ons rising to £11m from Charlton Athletic.
