Former Pharaohs of Egypt attacking midfielder Mohamed Aboutrika has been added to the terror list in his country for his alleged links with the banned Muslim Brotherhood.

According to his lawyer, the 38-year-old has been fingered as a financier of the Muslim Brotherhood which is considered a terrorist organization in Egypt.

The 2008 BBC African Player of the Year was very active during the presidential elections which brought in former president Mohamed Morsi, a Brotherhood member.

The former Al Ahly striker is now subject to travel ban as his passports and assets is set to be frozen.

Mohamed Osman who serves as the player’s lawyer lamented that the move is "contrary to the law", and in his words, "Aboutrika has not been convicted or formally notified of any of the charges against him."

"We will appeal this decision," Mr Osman said. while Aboutrika has strenuously denied the allegations.

The notable footballer who had 100 caps for Egypt scoring 38 goals was dubbed The Magictian’, Prince of Hearts, and The Saint during his playing days.

However, his public support of Morsi who lasted just one year in power split public opinion.

His string of assets as well as shares in quite a number of companies were seized by Egyptian authorities in 2015, while hundreds of people were killed during army’s crackdown on Brotherhood members.

Recall that days of extensive mass anti-government protests forced Mr.Morsi our of power in 2014, the same year Aboutrika retired.

The Muslim Brotherhood is a political organization using Islam as a troy that was founded in Ismailia, Egypt by Hassan al-Banna in March 1928 as an Islamist religious, political, and social movement.
