There was late drama at the opening match of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations as Guinea –Bissau made a last minute comeback to deny hosts Gabon vital three points.
Juary Soares’ stoppage-time header cancelled out Pierre Emeric Aubameyang’s goal which silenced the entire Stade d'Angondje as the match ended 1 -1.
Both teams started the game well matching eachother in every department.
Gabon’s Denis Bouanga had a chance to put his side ahead in the early stages, but his effort was blasted over the bar.
Aubameyang made some flashes also in the first half but somehow could not find the back of the net, with both teams going into the break with no goal.
Barely seven minutes into the second half, the stadium erupted when the Dortmund star was found unmarked in the six yard box, with the Borussia Dortmund scoring the opening goal of the tournament.
The hosts later fluffed numerous chances to extend their lead and eventually paid dearly in stoppage time when Guinea-Bissau’s striker Soares rose above the defense to head home the equalizer to give his side a crucial one point.
The other group game between Cameroon and Burkina Faso also ended 1 - 1, which means all teams in Group are on one point each.
