It was reported that West Brom also expressed an interest in signing the 27-year-old, but accepted that they could not match Everton's offer after having an £18 million offer turned down by the Red devils.
The 27-year-old Frenchman was signed to great expectations at Old Trafford after an excellent season with Southampton and featured prominently under Louis van Gaal, but fell down the pecking order under new Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho as the Portuguese man favoured Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick and Paul Pogba in central midfield.
