After winning gold for Nigeria at the Rio 2016 Paralympics, Lauretta Onye has expressed disappointment by the federal government's inability to give the Paralympians a reception for their heroic performance in Brazil.

The athlete is now considering quitting sports claiming she is not proud to be called a Nigerian Para-athlete.

According to the report, Lauretta explained that she was tired of representing a country that did not appreciate her contributions and determination.

The 32-year-old is extremely angry with government's neglect of athletes and she was said to be frustrated with sports issues in Nigeria.

She lamented that since she has been representing Nigeria, there is nothing to show for it and people have been mocking her on the streets.

With a throw of 8.40m, Lauretta Onye won gold at the 2016 paralympics in Brazil thereby becoming a world record holder in the F40 shot put class.

In 2015, the athlete also won gold and the only medal for Nigeria at the international paralympics committee championship in Doha.
