Paul Pogba’s had flicked the ball in via a set-piece before the home team leveled-up in a spectacular fashion through James McArthur, as the game was heading for a draw.

United dominated the entire game getting ten more shots more than their opponents before Zlatan Ibrahimovic found the back of the net barely two minutes to the end of the game to give his side all three points.

"We deserve, we were the best team," Mourinho said.

"They had a little reaction and they scored the goal in that period, then we had the best period in the game.

"In the first half we had control but in the last 20 minutes we were super dominant, we created a lot and we won in the end fairly deservedly."

The former Chelsea manager also insisted that it is not over for his side in the league as his sixth-placed side could catch-up with the top five teams.

He added: "We are doing enough for that (to be in the top six). If we had the points we lost at home with draws in matches that we did more than enough to win we would be close to the top of the league.

"But we lost these points and in this moment we are just closing the gap to the top four positions, so let's try.

"There are three more matches until the end of the year and let's see how it ends on December 31 and we can feel then and smell what is possible to do in the second part of the season."

Manchester United travel to The Hawtons to face West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, December 17.
